My granddaughter is getting her teeth straightened. I asked her when she was getting her braces and she told me she already had them. I couldn’t believe it. She said it’s something called Invisalign. They sure named that right. I couldn’t even see she had them in. She had to pull them out to prove it to me. Would ou believe it? They were real. I have always wanted straight teeth but never wanted to wear those crazy braces which puts all that metal in your mouth. Can an old lady get in on this gig or is it just for young folk?
It’s not a gig designed for age as much as candidacy. If your teeth and gums are healthy, you may be a good candidate. Invisalign was originally designed with adults in mind. They wanted a way for adults to straighten their teeth without feeling self-conscious. There is now an Invisalign Teen, which your granddaughter likely has. The only real difference between the two is there are extra aligners for when the teens misplace them.
Invisalign has a high satisfaction rate. It doesn’t work for all cases, but unless there’s something unusual wrong, most people are decent candidates.
It does require frequent visits to the dentist so you’ll want to be sure you pick a dentist you enjoy visiting, who has a good chairside manner. You’ll switch aligners every two weeks when you visit and get checked to make sure your treatment is working well.
You’re never too old to feel like you have a beautiful smile. You’d be surprised how many senior citizens come in for extensive cosmetic work. We’ve even had them get porcelain veneers for a complete smile makeover. Don’t think about age, but possibilities. There’s a whole world out there of things to do and experience.
