If you are looking for an easy and inexpensive way to brighten up your smile and boost your self-confidence, you may want to consider teeth whitening.
Dr. Price offers both in-office teeth whitening and the take-home method, which we call our VIP whitening. Both methods are equally effective. Not only will they bleach out stains, but they will also lighten the natural pigment of your teeth. So even if your smile has never been very bright, you can have teeth that are as white as you desire.
The Take-Home Teeth Whitening Process
If you’d rather whiten your teeth at home on your own schedule, you can save money with a simple take-home kit. Dr. Price will take an impression of your teeth and fabricate a set of trays that will fit your teeth precisely. You’ll also receive a powerful whitening gel and instructions.
When you’re ready to begin your treatment, you will put a small amount of gel in your trays. You only need to wear the trays for about 20 minutes a day for about two weeks to see a real difference. You can get additional whitening gel and continue to wear them longer if you would like your teeth to be whiter. Once you reach your desired shade, you will want to maintain your whiter teeth with periodic touch-ups once a year or so.
How Does Teeth Whitening Work?
Your teeth have their own natural pigmentation in the dentin layer. In addition, coffee, tea, tobacco, and highly pigmented foods leave stains on your teeth throughout your life. The part of the stain that remains on the outer enamel layer is removed when you brush, floss, and have regular professional cleanings. But the stains also seep through the enamel and remain in the dentin. The professional whitening gel we provide contains a strong peroxide that penetrates the enamel and oxidizes the deeper stains and bleaches the natural pigment as well.
If you have ever tried over-the-counter whitening strips, you have probably found them to be ineffective. They were designed to be used without the supervision of a dentist, so the peroxide solution needs to be much weaker. And whitening toothpastes simply don’t stay on the teeth long enough to provide any benefit.
The Boost In-Office System
Our in-office system is Boost. Dr. Price prefers this brand because it is more effective and has none of the drawbacks of the popular light-activated in-office systems. If you’d like to learn more, you can click here to read our Boost whitening page.
