Dr. Price offers three types of teeth whitening: Zoom, Sinsational Smile, and the take-home method. All these methods work by using a powerful peroxide solution that seeps through the enamel layer of the teeth to release oxygen in the dentin layer where the natural pigment and stains are. The oxygen oxidizes the stains and pigment, making your teeth whiter than they were even before they were stained. So you can have teeth that are whiter than they ever were. Each of these methods is equally effective and has both benefits and drawbacks that we’ll explore here.
Zoom Whitening and Sinsational Smiles
Both Zoom whitening and Sinsational Smiles are in-office treatments that work with a light to speed the oxidation process. The process takes 90 minutes per treatment for Zoom whitening and 20 minutes for Sinsational Smiles. The number of treatments you decide to have will depend on how white you would like your teeth to be, and for these two methods, you will want to have touch-up appointments every six months to one year. The photos above and to the left show preparation for the Zoom whitening method and the Zoom whitening light applied to the teeth.
While Zoom whitening is very powerful, it also heats and dehydrates the teeth, leading to sensitivity that feels like zinging sensations for some patients that can be uncomfortable. Dr. Price and many of her patients prefer the 20-minute Sinsational Smiles treatment that does not cause this kind of sensitivity. Finally, both of these methods are more expensive than the take-home trays.
Take-Home Teeth Whitening
The take-home method requires more time than the light-enhanced methods discussed above, but it is just as effective. If you choose this method, we will take an impression of your teeth and create custom-fit trays for you to take home along with a powerful peroxide whitening gel. You will put a small amount of the whitening gel in the trays and wear them for at least 20 minutes a day. You will see noticeable results within two weeks, but you can continue to whiten your teeth until you see the shade of white you desire. After you have finished your initial treatment, we can supply more whitening gel for you to do touch-ups every six months or so.
